E3b: External Examiners – key documents

The following documents are key to your appointment as an External Examiner at ORMS Ltd.

  • Academic Regulations
    • ORMS’ Academic Regulations are laid out in the Academic Quality Handbook, and apply to all taught provision delivered by ORMS. There may be variations between Awarding Body and Internally Validated provision, but this is clearly identified.
  • D1g: Assessment and Recommendations of Boards of Examiners is the Regulation you will become most familiar with during your term of office. This policy includes information on the permissible number of assessment opportunities; extenuating circumstances and assessment; and recommendations available to the Board of Examiners.
  • K1: Assessment Boards. This Organisational Regulation lays out the composition, remit and powers of the Assessment Board.
  • Section E3: External Examiners You will have received some information from this section prior to your commencement. This section details the authority and responsibilities, including administrative responsibilities and duties, of the External Examiner.
  • Checklist for External Examiners. This is a useful to check to ensure that you have received all material relevant to your appointment and duties, such as the Course Specification, Assessment Board dates, contact details of relevant staff.
  • External Examiner’s Induction checklist. This details what we need to explain to you when you commence your role.
  • External Examiner’s Annual Report Proforma. An electronic copy of the Annual Report Form is available from the above link. We accept both hard copy and electronic submissions of Reports. All Examiner Annual Reports should be submitted to ORMS no later than 4 weeks after the Assessment Board.
  • External Examiner’s Expenses and Fees Claim Form. A copy of the External Examiner Expenses and Fee Claim form is available from the above link. The completed form, with receipts, should be returned directly to the the Head of Administration at ORMS.
  • External Examiner Remuneration Section 3 of this document details the fees applicable to the different aspects of your role.
